Team building activities for the workplace are a great way to help build real connections between people in your organization, besides just being a fun thing to do outside of work. We’ve found that there are lots of benefits to getting colleagues involved in an offsite activity, including encouraging a healthy company culture, building the necessary skills of cooperation and camaraderie, and inspiring creative problem solving techniques.
We put together a list of some fun and interactive team building activities around Salt Lake City that actually get people working together and having fun. We think these experiences will create natural opportunities for collaboration, communication and connection without feeling forced or awkward.
1. Group Cooking Competitions at Salt Lake Culinary Education
In these hands-on group cooking classes in Salt Lake City, teams work together in equipped cooking stations to create restaurant quality dishes. Each cooking event combines professional instruction, hands-on practice and friendly competition to build team connections naturally.
The experience begins with a welcome appetizer while your professional chef instructor explains the event format and menu. Teams then break into small groups at individual cooking stations where they’ll strategize, innovate and create dishes from scratch. The competitive format forces teams to practice delegation, time management and clear communication – skills that translate directly back to the workplace.
SLICE offers two options for hands-on group cooking classes:
Culinary Experience Classes:
Teams work together at equipped stations to prepare a full meal under the guidance of an expert chef. Chefs share professional techniques and cooking tips throughout the process. This format is great for teams that prefer collaboration over competition.
Culinary Competition Events:
After a chef demonstration of key techniques, teams compete to make the best dishes. First they’ll gather ingredients from the pantry, then plan their strategy and work against the clock. Dishes are judged on presentation, taste, creativity and teamwork with prizes for the winning team.
Both formats end with everyone getting together to enjoy the dishes they made plus a special dessert from the SLICE team. The shared dining experience gives teams time to reflect on their cooking adventure and celebrate together.
SLICE’s kitchens can accommodate groups of all sizes with events usually lasting about 3 hours. Their facility has three separate cooking spaces that can be configured to suit different group needs. The culinary team takes care of all prep, clean up and equipment – you just need to bring yourselves and your appetite!
For teams that want to customize their experience, SLICE offers flexible menu options from international cuisines to seasonal specials. They can accommodate dietary restrictions and varying skill levels so everyone can participate in the cooking experience.
