What to Expect

Each class is about 3 hours in length. This includes time for Junior Chefs to cook along with their instructors and enjoy all of their culinary creations. Junior Chefs will learn directly from professional chefs through a mix of demonstration and hands-on cooking. Classes are designed for all skill levels.

Our Junior Chef cooking classes help kids establish healthy habits while promoting independence, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. We believe cooking helps kids practice basic math concepts, build language skills, and teaches coordination and cooperation. Plus, recreating recipes at home cultivates a sense of independence and confidence that can be utilized inside and outside of the kitchen.

Each class is about three hours long. This includes about two hours of hands-on cooking and about thirty minutes to an hour for enjoying their culinary creations.

Each class has a specific menu with different learning objectives. Maybe they’ll explore cultural cuisines, baking techniques or even knife skills! Details on the specific menu for each class can be found in each class description.

Not at all! Our Junior Chef Cooking Classes are designed to accommodate all skill levels, from novice to master chef.

The cost for a Junior Chef Class is typically $100 per person. This includes the cooking class, all ingredients, and enjoying their creations. Prices may vary depending on type of class and cuisine, so be sure to check the class description for pricing when you go to sign up. 

Most classes accommodate up to 12 students to ensure each Junior Chef is getting plenty of hands-on, individualized instruction.

Yes, we do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions and food allergies if communicated at the time of registration.

Junior Chef classes are for children ages nine and up.

Parents or guardians do not attend class with their Junior Chef. Simply drop them off and we’ll handle the rest (including the mess)!

Yes, everything they need for the class, including pre-measured ingredients and cooking tools, is provided.

Junior Chefs should arrive in comfortable, closed-toe shoes as they will be standing and cooking for the majority of the time. Please tie back long hair. Aprons will be provided.

Absolutely! You can purchase a specific class if you know which class the recipient wants to attend. Simply include their name and email address at the time of registration. Alternatively, you may buy an online gift certificate for them to choose their preferred class.

Each class requires significant planning and preparation in advance. Therefore, all purchases are non-refundable. However, you may reschedule your Junior Chef ffor another available class if you notify us at least 72 hours in advance. If you cancel with less than 72 hours before their scheduled class, Salt Lake Culinary Education will not provide refunds, credits or class transfers for classes missed.  If they are unable to attend, you are welcome to send someone in their place.

Your health and safety are extremely important to us.

We are taking every precaution to ensure a safe and sanitary kitchen and classroom environment. We regularly clean and disinfect our facility throughout the day and class sizes are currently limited to practice proper distancing. All staff is required to wear a face mask. We are doing everything we can to keep our guests and SLICE team safe, and are asking for your help with these additional precautions:

  • Upon arrival, you will sign in and have your temperature taken at the front desk. Any guests with a temperature over 100 degrees will be asked to go home.
  • You will be required to wear a face mask and gloves during the prep and cooking segments of class. You will be allowed to remove your face mask once you are seated at a dining table.
  • Please wash your hands upon arrival and after touching your phone, your face, door handles, and other surfaces outside of the kitchen.
