Ingredients:
12 semi-ripe pears, peeled
1/2 gallon orange juice
2 bottles red wine
1 cup sugar
1 whole orange, quartered
2 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon whole cloves
Instructions:
- Combine orange juice and red wine in a large pot. Add sugar, orange, cinnamon, and clove. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat and let the sugar dissolve.
- Add peeled pears to poaching liquid. Very gently simmer for 7-8 minutes and the flip pears over so that the are colored on all sides. Poach another 6-7 minutes.
- Once pears are tender and have taken on some color from the poaching liquid, remove pears and set aside to cool slightly.
- Serve pears warm, cooled, or chill them for later.
