What to Expect

A knife is the single most important tool in any kitchen and knife skills are a fundamental building block of your culinary education. Mastering proper knife work will make it easier as well as more fun to prepare and cook your favorite meals. This class is tailored to accommodate all skill levels – from beginner to professional chef – and everything in between. In this class, our professional chef will teach you how to choose the right knife, properly hold a knife, keep a sharp edge on your chef knife, and cook a simple meal.

Knife skills help you achieve consistent cuts, which is important in cooking. Precisely cut ingredients are important to consider when preparing any recipe as cook time will vary depending on shape and size. Better yet, evenly cut ingredients are visually more appealing. As they say – you eat with your eyes first!

Here are a few fundamental cuts you’ll learn:

  • Slice
  • Dice
  • Mince
  • Brunoise
  • Julienne
  • Bâtonnet
  • Chiffonade
