More Frequently Asked Questions
The 12-week accelerated professional culinary arts chef certification program is $9,800 and includes all materials and food, eBook, equipment, uniform, exam fees and graduation.
The Professional Certificate in Culinary Arts program takes 12 weeks to complete.
The primary differences between a culinary arts certificate and a culinary arts diploma are the length of time required and tuition costs.
Certificates and diplomas are suited for different kinds of students:
A culinary arts certificate is ideal for the student who wants an affordable professional-level culinary education in the shortest amount of time possible.
A culinary arts diploma is better suited for the student who wants additional classes such as Elements of Effective Communication and Human Relations, has 2 or 4 years to invest, and up to $60,000 to spend on a culinary degree as opposed to a culinary certificate.
Many culinary institutes offer school-based certificate programs, but we offer a certificate from the ACF, a nationally-recognized premiere chef’s organization with well-known standards for culinary excellence.
The ACF certificate is a standard of professional competency and a symbol of professionalism. It carries more credibility than just a certificate from a local culinary institute.
We offer our professional culinary institute students the opportunity to acquire the ACF CC® – Certified Culinarian® certificate or the ACF CFC® – Certified Fundamentals Cook® Certificates. The cost for our students to take the proctored written and practical exams for either of these programs is included in the program.
Financing options include layaway, loans, 3rd party scholarships, GI Bill® funding and Department of Workforce Services funding. Please email us at admissions@sliceutah.com to discuss options in detail.
Whether you want to become a professional chef, start a business, manage a restaurant, style food, open a food truck, cater events, write a cookbook, develop and test recipes, or impress your family and friends with your culinary skills, there are many opportunities to use your culinary education after graduation.
There is a shortage of qualified culinarians in Utah, and we’re approached every week by potential employers, looking for qualified and eager employees.
We connect our students with networking opportunities and facilitate introductions during their education to ensure they have a range of options and career opportunities after graduation.
- Complete an application
- Verify your high school graduation or GED status
- Two letters of recommendation
- $60 non-refundable application fee
- Enrollment interview with the SLICE Institute Director
While SLICE is not a federally accredited school, it is approved by the American Culinary Federation. It is also a licensed post-secondary program through the State of Utah and an approved vendor for the Utah Department of Workforce Services.
We firmly believe that culinary education thrives in a face-to-face, hands-on environment. In-person instruction provides the optimal setting for mastering precise culinary skills and techniques. Online culinary schools limit a student’s opportunity to apply their skills in real-world kitchens, hindering the application and refinement of their culinary skills. We teach our professional programs in-person, giving our students the best opportunity to practice and perfect culinary techniques under the guidance of professional chefs. We also have online videos and tutorials to supplement in-person education.
